Leak Testing of Drainage & Sewer Systems according to ÖNORM

The Official Certification for Authorities & Insurance Companies

Whether for the occupancy permit of your new building, as proof of quality after a rehabilitation, or as part of your duty of care as an owner or property management: the official proof of a non-leaking (tight) sewer system is essential to ensure legal compliance.

As one of the few certified leak testing companies in Austria, we carry out the leak testing of your entire drainage and sewer system, including sewers, manholes, and separators, exactly according to the strict requirements of ÖNORM B2503. You receive a complete and recognized test report from us as reliable documentation for authorities or insurance companies.

Should the test reveal a need for rehabilitation, we, as a full-service provider, will immediately prepare a suitable rehabilitation concept for you.

Frequently asked questions about leak testing

Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about leak testing.

When is a leak test necessary or useful?

A leak test is required whenever you need official proof of the condition of your sewer system. The most common applications are for the final inspection of new buildings (for the use permit), as proof of quality following a renovation or to fulfill your duty of care as an owner or building manager.

What exactly is checked during the leak test?

We test the tightness of your entire drain and sewer system. This includes underground pipes, channels, shafts and separator systems (e.g. grease or oil separators). The test is carried out in accordance with the strict requirements of ÖNORM B2503 to ensure a complete and reliable result.

How does the leak test according to ÖNORM work?

After an initial visual inspection and cleaning of the pipe sections to be tested, the system is temporarily sealed at both ends. The section is then filled with either water or air and kept at a defined test pressure for a specified period of time. A measuring device documents exactly whether the pressure remains constant or falls.

Why is a certified leak testing company so important?

Only a certified company such as DerKanal can issue you an audit report that is officially recognized by authorities, insurance companies and in legal matters. Certification is your guarantee of professional implementation in accordance with applicable standards and a result that you can rely on.

What happens if a leak is found during the leak test?

If the leak test reveals damage, our service does not end. We will provide you with exact documentation of the vulnerability. As a full-service provider for all sewer technology, we create a professional and transparent renovation concept for you directly on this basis. In this way, you can easily get an analysis and the solution from a single source.

Our Leak Testing methods in accordance with ÖNORM B2503

Test with water

This is the classic method for leak testing. The line section or shaft to be tested is temporarily sealed at both ends and filled with water. Over a defined period of time, it is then precisely measured whether the water level remains constant. The test is considered passed if the water loss is within the strict tolerance limits of ÖNORM.

Test with air

In this modern process, a slight positive or negative pressure is applied to the sealed line section. Highly sensitive measuring devices monitor whether this test pressure is maintained over the specified time. A drop in pressure would indicate a leak. This process is often faster and requires no water.
